The value in this design is really shines with in the field use; For instance, you can now permanently attach your HAGz® Universal Lock to your trap as the lock will slide over the stake end, creating a simpler transport/carry and hookup at the trap site. This method is MUCH preferred over having to leave a lock on the rod with a "quick" attach device - can be slow and prone to failure.
Additionally, setting the trap is safer as you now can install the bottom of the rod, set trap (In or out of the water) and slide lock with set trap over end then stake. This is MUCH preferred over having a swinging trap (often set) from the rod while you insert the bottom end - unsafe, cumbersome and prone to snapped traps.
This design also allows quick change up between rods, wire, chain, etc.. This is MUCH preferred over having to have additional locks setting aside for single use cases or needing tools to switch between methods - slow and wasteful.
We had several designs over the last few seasons, came full circle several times, just couldn’t stop coming back to this style of stake end, so we perfected it!

the only thing I wish I would have done differently is to have bought these sooner.
Your system works great. Especially in my situation since I am trapping from a boat. Weight limit is a concern. The one thing that I think you can improve on is some sort of extension coupler. 8' is too short in some situations. Sometimes deep water is too far reach. You cheat where you can but sometimes you end up w/ one on the bank cause he pulled it from the mud. Longer rods will solve this.
Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, shipping 10' rods is cost prohibitive to customers. At over $200/doz to ship, nobody would buy them. Conventions would be the only place we could sell them. Even then, 8' rods have proven themselves to be a great length for the majority of situations. For the situation where you cannot reach deep water, just point the rod downstream into the mud, it doesn't have to go straight out. Additionally, the lock was designed to work on cable/wire as well, this is a great time to use wire instead of a rod, if a rod will not work for your particular situation. ... PS - if you have a coupler design that is virtually indestructable and the lock will not hang up on it, we would gladly discuss it further with you :) .
